Underglow Lights for Car FAQs
Is it legal to drive a car with underglow lights on?
In general, driving with underglow lights on public roads is illegal. In most circumstances, having underglow that flashes red or blue are typically illegal, both on and off the road. All of our XKchrome Kits offer a “Default” mode so that if you are able to drive with a legal color, that color will illuminate each time the kit is powered on. Our XKchrome kits also offer the ability to shut off the exterior lights while keeping the interior on. Because the laws on underglow lights vary greatly by state, drivers looking to add underglow lights should first check under the unlawful vehicle modification laws of their particular state to avoid potential warnings and penalties.
Where to get car underglow light kits installed?
In general, most 12-volt shops will be able to complete an underglow installation. If you would like to see if XKGLOW has any authorized dealers in your area, please visit our Dealer Locator page for more information.
Will underglow lights drain my car battery?
This depends on how many LED lights you have installed on the car, the condition and type of battery on the vehicle, and even the color or brightness of the LEDs. If the vehicle is running, the vehicle’s charging system will be more than capable of keeping up with the amperage pull from the lights. In most circumstances, a battery in good condition will be able to power the lights for several hours without any significant drain on the battery. If the vehicle is going to be parked in storage for an extended period of time, we recommend using the physical ON/OFF switch included in all of our XKchrome Kits to power off the lights. This will ensure that there is zero amperage pull to power any of the lights and the controller.
